The Pocket Size History of Defunct Speedway Tracks - Bradford Odsal Special

SPEEDWAY Racing may well be just a memory of happy times spent on the terraces and stands at Bradford’s Odsal Stadium, but a new book has now been published detailing the complete history of this once proud club.
From Odsal greats of the past, Grosskreutz to Havelock, from Hart to Screen and Forrest to Loram, this book captures the excitement, spills and thrills that was Bradford Odsal speedway which first came to town in June 1945 and died deep into October 1997 with the club crowned as league champions just weeks before for the one and only time in their history.
With more than 240 pages (248) the book is full of seasonal statistics, complete rider records, results, league tables, rider and management interviews and has more than 600 photos and images.
This is one fascinating publication and a look back as to what life was really like riding the famous Odsal speedway.

He said: “The book took a long time in its making and at one stage l wondered if l would ever complete it but all the hard work was worth it if it brings back happy memories for thousands who once flocked to Odsal on Saturday nights!”
The book is full of rare archive photos some of which have never been published before and Jones interviews a number of former riders in 50s star Guy Allott, 60s top man Des Haswell, 70s idol Dave Baugh, 1992 World Champion Gary Havelock and promoter Allan Ham who ran the show at Odsal for longer than anyone.
There is also a fascinating insight into the racing career of Odsal’s first ever captain, Ron Clarke from Diana Sharkey, Ron’s daughter who now lives in New Jersey, USA.
